We’re improving our building with Riverside Construction! This project will include a new nursery, remodeled and expanded restrooms, and an updated office / library / bookstore area, hopefully to be completed in early 2018. We plan to continue with all worship services and meetings as before; in the meantime, please pardon the mess and come join us!
We will periodically post updates and announcements here about our progress – latest ones at the top!
December 6, 2017 – Electricity & Siding
Lots of installation of electrical wiring, outlets and switches.
The exterior continues to progress with some windows in the doorway and siding above the brick.
November 27, 2017 – More Sidewalk & Insulation
There was a slight issue with the completed sidewalk so the crew returned after Thanksgiving to fix it. There has been a lot of work done on insulation as well. Electrical and Plumbing are also progressing.
November 16-17, 2017 – New Sidewalk
A little earlier than scheduled, we got our sidewalk redone so that now the new entrance is clearly defined and the old step is gone.
November 10-13, 2017 – An Old Door Gone!
This weekend saw a noticeable change in that the old entrance to the office hallway was bricked off and replaced with a lovely window.
This means the interior framing and exterior brick work are now completed. Dumpters and equipment for these two tasks are being removed as the project moves on to siding, plumbing and electrical.
November 6,2017 – HVAC & Interior Framing
A “window” is being made in the office wall, the new office restroom is framed in, and the duct work for the HVAC system is going in.
A new door has been cut for Andy’s office (the old one will be covered over), and the interior wall dividing the library from the bookstore is now framed.
November 1-3, 2017 – Bricking
The brick masons are slowly but surely cladding the addition with bricks to match the old building. It’s interesting that they build up one complete side at a time instead of all the walls at once.
October 30-31, 2017 – Office Demolition!
Now we are really seeing the new floor plan. First they took up the carpet in the office hallway and removed a display case.
Next they sealed off the end of the hall and began gutting the interior. The handicap-accessible restroom, bookstore, and library walls were torn out.
A frame was built and the cinder block wall which was the back wall of the handicap-accessible restroom was cut out to make the new entrance into the office area.
You can see they’ve ripped out the old ceiling tiles and cleaned up the demo. Where the saw table is will one day be shelving for the library and bookstore.
October 26-27, 2017 – Roofing
The time has come to shingle the addition’s roof and tie it into the existing roof material – just in time for a turn to colder, rainier weather. Also, the addition windows have gone in.
October 25, 2017 – Interior Framing Continues
The studs of the new entrance hall, closets, restroom entrance & walls are going up.
October 18-20, 2017 – Ceiling Structure
The exterior profile as designed by Denny Wischmeier is becoming more and more visible. Also, a peek at the vaulted ceiling structure from inside what will be the main entrance hallway and demolition of the old exterior wall of the men’s restroom.
October 13, 2017 – Progress!
Lots of work has been done on the roof structure joining the addition to the main building. The restrooms are now completely gutted down to the studs and sub-floor. You can get a sense of the vaulted ceiling in the new entry.
October 9, 2017 – Sealed Off Restrooms
A temporary wall with a door has been built to seal off the construction area from the hall and the restroom access from the nursery has also been temporarily sealed with drywall. You can see why – the old restrooms are gutted and the wall separating them is gone!
October 3, 2017 – A New Roof Line Emerges
We have lost the use of our restrooms but are excited to see the new profile of the building taking shape.
September 25-29, 2017 – Floors & Exterior Walls
September 21-22, 2017 – Tearing Down the Wall
The old brick has been difficult to chip off.
September 18, 2017 – Adding Gravel
September 13-15, 2017 – Foundation Work
We can start to see the outline of the nursery addition taking shape!
September 8, 2017 – Closing off the Old Entrance
The other side of this “door” is now a drop off as they create the crawl space and foundation for the nursery. Temporarily sealed off until a new entrance can be built.
September 7, 2017 – Breaking Ground & Packing Up!
Digging the crawl space for the new nursery addition, and a last look at the bookstore and library – many thanks to all who helped us pack up the books for storage!
